Sub Sea Systems, Inc. & Ballast Technologies’ VR Snorkeling Product Nominated for Best Out-of-Home VR Entertainment of the Year

San Francisco, California – Sub Sea Systems, Inc. and Ballast Technologies’ virtual reality snorkeling system with sensory effects, DIVR+, is a finalist in the 4th International VR Awards for best Out-of-Home VR Entertainment of the Year.

DIVR+ is a virtual reality snorkeling system that combines 3D content with sensory effects. The self-contained, portable device occupies a small footprint and sets up along a pool’s edge in minutes. Participants wear a VR headset, breathe through a snorkel, and use a floatation belt to maintain a prone/neutral position in the water. During the experience, a stationary, side-mounted thruster produces jets of water and other sensory effects, all synchronized with the VR content.

Operating a consumer VR experience in-water is revolutionary for the industry. Terrestrial VR experiences account for the vast majority of the market. Immersing the VR experience in water produces a completely different and more convincingly realistic experience. With the user suspended in near zero-gravity and the system’s thruster emitting sensory feedback, the sensations of flight, propulsion and general movement become greatly enhanced.

DIVR+ enables resorts, waterparks and pool operators to monetize low use pool areas or “dead spaces,” with a highly accessible, unique attraction.

Hundreds of worldwide applicants were considered for the Out-of-Home VR Entertainment of the Year category. DIVR+ is among the highest caliber nominees, including: The VOID – Jumanji: Reverse the Curse, HOLOGATE – HOLOGATE ‘BLITZ’, and ILMxLAB & The VOID– Avengers: Damage Control, among others.

Award winners will be announced November 12, 2020.
